German Cockroach Pest Control
German cockroaches are approximately half an inch long and have two distinct stripes along the upper section of their tan-colored bodies. They commonly infest warm spots close to a water source and prefer to set up camp in dark, moist spaces, which offer protection, such as cracks and gaps. German cockroaches can enter a home or building in bags and boxes, as well as used furniture from infested homes.
To treat a German cockroach infestation, we begin by pinpointing all their potential hiding places within the home or business. Upon inspection, we will target the active infestation areas, carefully treating areas such as gaps and cracks.
American Cockroach Pest Control
The American cockroach is the largest species pictured. They have reddish brown bodies that can be up to two inches in length. The upper section of their bodies features a yellow figure eight. American cockroaches typically live in warm, wet areas, such as a basement, crawl space or sewer. They may also be found outside in areas with heavy ground cover, as well as tree holes and piles of wood; they are typically found outdoors in the southern United States.
Treating an American cockroach infestation involves treating the areas in which they live. The species typically consumes any insect bait it comes into contact with, as opposed to the German cockroach, which is pickier.
Once the treatment has been performed, homeowners can keep cockroaches at bay by:
- Sealing all holes and cracks in the home’s exterior
- Adding or upgrading insulation in the attic and crawlspace
- Putting away pet food instead of leaving it out overnight
Smokybrown Cockroach Pest Control
Smokybrown cockroaches are mahogany in color, can fly and can grow up to an inch and a half long. They are similar to American cockroaches and are commonly found inhabiting tree holes, piles of wood, etc. They access homes and buildings through attics and crawl spaces.
Oriental Cockroach Pest Control
Oriental cockroaches are only about an inch in length. Males have brown wings extending partially along the abdomen, while females are black with small wing pads only. They live in damp, dark environments, commonly found in basements and crawl spaces, though, in the summer, they tend to move outside to wet areas.
Oriental cockroaches are treated in a manner similar to the American cockroach. Dust and/or a granular bait is used to treat cracks and gaps in a home or building’s exterior, along with active infestation sites.
To prevent future infestations of Oriental cockroaches after treatment, homeowners should:
- Seal any cracks or holes in the home’s exterior
- Add or upgrade crawl space ventilation
- Clear away ground covers close to the home.
